The first Eurofighter Typhoon Kuwait with an innovative E-Scan Captor radar, Phase Enhancement P3Eb
The first Eurofighter Cyclone, with the Kuwait Air Force Series 6 (ISPA 6) Instrumental Air Force Series configuration, completed its maiden flight at the Leonardo Aviation Division Flight Test Center in Turin-Caselle on December 23, 2019.
This aircraft is the first aircraft equipped with an innovative E-Scan Captor radar with Phase Enhancement P3Eb.
This standard is the most sophisticated variant of Typhoon fighter jets ever made, with a capability package built effectively on existing upgrading programs.
A contract for the procurement of 28 multi-role cyclone Eurofighter warplanes was signed between the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense and Leonardo (on 5 April 2016) through the Aircraft Division which acts as the Main Contract Organization of Eurofighter.
With the Captor E-Scan radar and several new additions to the weapons system, this variant will place the Kuwaiti Air Force at the forefront of fighter aircraft technology when it starts operating in the Kuwaiti Air Force in 2020.
While Eurofighter aircraft made by other Eurofighter Partner Companies are testing certain parts of this configuration, including the development of E-Scan radars in the UK and Germany, the inaugural Hurricane Air Force AU flight is the first flight of all packages to be sent to Kuwait.
The capability package for Kuwait includes the integration of Storm Shadow and Brimstone missiles and other air-to-surface weapons. In addition, it is planned to integrate an advanced pod laser designator (Lockheed Martin Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod) which will add to the collection of laser designator pods that can be carried by aircraft, as well as the introduction of the DRS-Cubic ACMI P5 combat training pod and enhanced navigation assistance (VOR).
Eurofighter Typhoon is a twin-engined multirole fighter, delta-canard wing, produced by the consortium of Airbus, BAE Systems and Leonardo who undertook most of the project through joint ventures.
The typhoon entered operational service in 2003; has entered the Austrian, Italian, German, British, Spanish and Saudi Arabian air forces. The Oman, Kuwait and Qatar air forces are the next export customers, bringing the total procurement to 599 aircraft in 2016.
