Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for The Girlfriend.
The Girlfriend dropped a shocking twist at the end of the season, and the Prime Video show has some questions it needs to answer. With the final violent scene between Cherry (Olivia Cooke), Daniel (Laurie Davidson), and Laura (Robin Wright) playing out in a grim affair — with Laura getting accidentally drowned by Daniel — you might think that Cherry almost gets away with it all. Throughout the show, Laura and Cherry have competed for Daniel's complete affection and attention, and although both women go to extremes to ensure that, Cherry wins out in the end. And while the show focuses on balancing the two women during the series, the last moments hint at a darker future for Daniel and Cherry.
When Daniel finds the phone his mother lost during her scuffle with Cherry, he listens to the voicemail that she tried to him him to understand when she drugged him. The truth is plainly there for Daniel when Cherry's mother reveals to Laura just how far Cherry is willing to go to get what she wants and that Daniel should be careful. We spoke with Laurie Davidson and Waleed Zuaiter about how they unlocked their characters through some of the toughest scenes in the show, with Zuaiter revealing a moment when he got into an argument with Wright about how to approach his character. Davidson and Zuaiter also commented on that twist ending and what it means for each character. While a renewal is still not solidified, there still is more story to tell when it comes to The Girlfriend.
The Girlfriend is available to stream on Prime Video in the U.S.
