The Groundhogs - Split - Part Four (1971)
The fourth and last track on Side One from The Groundhogs album Split, this leaves only one remaining song, "Split - Part Three," left to be made into a video. "Split - Part
One," "A Year in the Life," "Junkman," and "Groundhog" have all been made into videos and are all available on my channel. "Split - Part Two" and "Cherry Red" together I did on my video of The Groundhogs: "Cherry Red"/"Split - Part Two," Live at BBC One. There is also a video of the studio album track of "Cherry Red" I did a while back, but I am reluctant to put it up as it would get age restricted.
Split - Part Four is probably the most abstract and eccentric of the four splits and thus the most experimental one I have done. Also, a lot of actual music in the non-lyrical sections. According to Tony McPhee's sleeve notes for the 2003 CD reissue, the lyrics for Split were inspired by a panic attack experienced by him in May 1970. Tony McPhee is without
question one of the greatest lead guitar players in rock history even though the band is not well-remembered.
