On May 20, 1990, the Chicago Bulls and the Detroit Pistons played in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The Detroit Pistons' home arena, The Palace of Auburn Hills in Auburn Hills, Michigan, hosted the game.
Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls, who had been ousted by the Detroit Pistons in the previous two seasons' playoffs, were out for vengeance. The NBA champion Pistons were renowned for their tough and physical style of play.
The Bulls started strong in Game 3 because they wanted to send a message. With 46 points and complete control of the game, Michael Jordan put on an amazing show. He demonstrated his scoring prowess, athleticism, and clutch play as he helped the Bulls defeat the Pistons 107-102.
The rivalry between the two teams changed after this game. The Bulls took a 2-1 series lead after winning Game 3, and they eventually won the series in seven games.
Later that year, after beating the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals, the Bulls would capture their first NBA title. A significant milestone on their path to developing into a dynasty in the 1990s was their triumph against the Pistons in the Eastern Conference Finals of 1990.
