THE LAND OF PAIN #03 │ These Woods Appear To Be Inhabited
"HE WHO PASSES THE GATEWAYS ALWAYS WINS A SHADOW, AND NEVER AGAIN CAN HE BE ALONE..."
This is the story of a man who long ago took upon himself the responsibility of looking after his late father’s cabin, an old retreat in the middle of a densely wooded valley. One day, he departs from his home to once again pay said memento a visit; however, upon arriving at his destination, a strange object of unknown origin suddenly appears before his eyes and carries him off into an unknown land of never-ending rain and darkness. Can he unravel the mystery behind it all and find his way back home – or will his life be claimed by the horrors that seem to be lurking amongst the trees?

“The Land of Pain” happens to be a first-person horror adventure that was created by one Alessandro Guzzo and published on the 13th of September 2017. At first glance, you might say that this game does not have much to offer and is little more than a spooky walking simulator with the occasional puzzle/enemy thrown in to complicate things; however, its main attraction – an absolutely massive as well as hauntingly beautiful forest – does not care about said prejudice and is filled to the brim with atmosphere and immersion. Never before has it felt scarier to be absolutely lost in the middle of nowhere, a sea of trees as far as the eye can see in every direction. Truth be told, I do not mind walking simulators at all, and this one happens to be quite special – why exactly? Well, because “The Land of Pain” was inspired by the works of H. P. Lovecraft, basically one of my favorite authors of all time; thus, I am sort of contractually obligated to plunge myself into this nightmare. Also, it is no secret that I am rather afraid of massive forests, so we pretty much have a recipe for a couple of decent spooks here. Join me, and together we shall try our best to get our nameless protagonist back home – if we do not succumb to the madness that awaits first.
