Episode 8 of The Last of Us starts off by introducing the people of silver lake, with preacher David speaking to his people. Before he tries to console a grieving girl whose father was killed, at the hands of Joel and Ellie back at the university. In the game, Ellie is killing rabbits with her bow and arrow, just before she spots a deer she begins to hunt. In the live action version, we learn that food is running out for the community, and James and David plan to go out hunting for deer.

We then see Ellie returning to tend to Joel, before she heads out and harvests a deer. In the game, Ellie is using a bow and arrow, in the show she is using Joel’s rifle.

In both versions she is successful, and in both she comes across David and James.

Of note, is the fact that James is played by Troy Baker, the actor who voices Joel in the game.
Ellie waits with David while James retrieves the antibiotics.

In the game, while they are waiting, a swarm of the infected attack them forcing Ellie and David to work together. They even face a bloater.

James returns and David keeps his word, giving Ellie the medication.

Next, Ellie returns and gives Joel a shot of penicillin. In the show, we then see David and James return with the deer and then David strikes one of his followers for speaking out of turn. They return to eating meat of questionable origin.

Later, Ellie is alerted by the birds and quickly realizes that she was tracked. She returns to Joel and tells him that people are here and that she is going to try and draw them away.

Ellie tries to escape by horseback in both, and ultimately the horse is shot.

In the game, Ellie manages to scramble away, before taking on multiple members of David’s party. After traversing a good long while, Ellie is finally captured.

In the show, David’s followers are looking for Joel, before one makes the mistake of finding him.

In both versions, Ellie then wakes up. In the game she instantly is introduced to the fact that these people are cannibals. David offers Ellie food, and protection if she cooperates. Ellie looks to want to cooperate.

In the game, we then see Joel wake up, and head out looking for Ellie as he comes across David’s people. In both, we see Joel get his hands on two of David’s guys so that he can ask them where Ellie is.

In the show, we see a scene similar to what we saw in the game, with Ellie realizing that these people are cannibals, feigning cooperation, and breaking David’s finger.

In the game, David and James come for Ellie, and look to chop her up into tiny pieces. But Ellie stops them by telling them she is infected, and now David is too since she bit him, she tells them to roll up her sleeve so she can show them. Just then, Ellie uses the distraction to take out James and runs.

In the live action version, we see Joel who is now tracking Ellie, when he finds Ellie’s backpack and a few bodies.

Right before we see, James and David come for Ellie, who once again distracts them by telling them she is infected, before she once again ends James and runs.

In both, this next sequence starts out the same, with Ellie being confronted by David. As the whole place starts to go up in flames. The game cuts back to Joel, who is still fighting his way through David’s people as he encounters the raging inferno where she’s at. In both, David gets a hold of Ellie, before she ends him.

Joel then finds her, and this section of the game and episode end.
