3The action of the main part takes place 20 years after a global catastrophe — a pandemic caused by a mutated mushroom cordyceps. According to the plot, cordyceps enters the human body in the form of spores as a result of inhalation, through the blood or saliva of an infected person. Then the fungus causes irreversible changes in the human body — the victim loses his mind and turns into a kind of zombie. The pandemic led to the decline of civilization and the death of most of the US population and the entire Earth. Some of the survivors are sheltering in isolated quarantine zones guarded by the military. Cities outside the quarantine zones have turned into dangerous ruins inhabited by infected, bandits and cannibals. The terrorist organization "Cicadas" (in the original "Fireflies" from the English Fireflies) is trying to raise the population of quarantine zones to revolt against the military, and also seeks to develop a vaccine against infection
