'The Last Worker' is a 2023 video game, developed by 'Wolf & woof' & 'Oiffy' and published by Wired Productions, and it is marketed as a game that is critical to automation, and tangentially, to Amazon and like-minded companies working practises.
But what does that mean, what is one person meant to do to change a whole economic system that is both destroying the world and the people on it?
I explore the game, offer my thoughts on it as a playing experience, and then dig into what it has to say politically about late-stage capitalism, worker exploitation and ultimately, a person's agency when facing such a behemoth.
I extensively dip into Mark Fisher's 'Capitalist Realism: Is There No Alternative' throughout RIP Mark Fisher.
