Welcome to my The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel let's play. My name is digidv85 but please call me dig for short. This is a blind let's play. It will feature a new game on hard difficulty to completion. Sticking to the blind aspect, not every side quest or activity will be shown as that would require looking up information. Gameplay shown on PS4.

About Game: The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel[c] is a role-playing video game developed by Nihon Falcom. The game is a part of the Trails series, itself a part of the larger The Legend of Heroes series. Initially released in Japan in 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, Xseed Games would later localize and publish the game in English regions in 2015. A port for Microsoft Windows was also released by Xseed in 2017, which includes additional English voice acting not seen in the original release. Another port for the PlayStation 4 was released in Japan in 2018, and worldwide the following year. A port for Nintendo Switch was released in Japan and Asia on July 8, 2021. A direct sequel, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II, was released in late 2014.

Gameplay: The gameplay of Trails of Cold Steel is similar to previous Trails games, being a traditional Japanese role-playing video game with turn-based battles. It adds free camera movement and fully 3D character models.

The game has a new battle system, designed for commands in fights to be selected at a faster rate. The system allows players to pair characters up with a "Link" system, which allows follow-up attacks and provide various other benefits. Links becomes a more useful asset to the player as the story progress and characters level up their "Link Levels" with other characters Cold Steel maintains the "AT" (Action Time) battle system, which displays ally versus enemy turns on a bar on the screen. The Orbment system from past games has been streamlined. Trails of Cold Steel inherits the "Master Quartz" system from Trails to Azure. Players can transfer save data between the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation 4 versions using cross-save functionality.

Development and Release: In December 2012, Nihon Falcom announced a new game to be titled The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Flash for Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita. It was developed using the PhyreEngine game engine.

Katsumi Enami was the character illustrator for the images, as with other works in the series after Trails of Zero. A number of videos about the development process were released prior to the video game release as Kondo's "Trails of Production" series.

It was first released in September 2013 for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita in Japan, titled The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Flash. In December 2013, a producer of the series stated "when the series was mainly on PC, the average player ages was in the 30s, whereas Trails in the Flash has an average of fans in their teens to early 20s." In December 2013, it was announced that Trails in the Flash would have a sequel released in 2014, to take place in the same locale.

In January 2014, it was announced that Cold Steel, or The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Flash and its sequel would also be localized into Chinese and Korean with the assistance of Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia. At the time, it was unknown if there would be an English release.

It was released in English on December 22, 2015, for PS3 or Vita, as The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel, or Sen no Kiseki I. The English localization was handled by Xseed Games. Xseed published Trails in Cold Steel in North America, and European publishing was overseen by NIS America. In a 2016 review of the English localization, RPGSite noted that there hadn't been English versions of the two prior titles Zero no Kiseki and Ao no Kiseki, arguing that the gap made it more difficult for players of the English version to fully grasp the narrative. The English version was also ported to Microsoft Windows on August 2 2017, with the latter including additional voice acting not seen in the original release.

A remastered version for the PlayStation 4, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel I: Kai -Thors Military Academy 1204-, was released in Japan in March 2018. It includes many features seen in the PC release, such as support for 4k resolution and a "high speed skip" combat feature. It was released for PS4 in North America on March 26, 2019 and Europe on March 29.

Sales: During the first week after release in 2013, the PlayStation Vita version outsold the PlayStation 3 version, placing second place in the Media Create software sales charts with 81,622 copies sold, compared to the 67,718 copies sold for the PS3 version in fourth place. The game resulted in significant profits for Falcom, with 1.9 billion yen in net sales, and 700 million yen in operating profit.
