The owl's last advice is actually a good advice.

Iron Knuckle strategy:
Make him first attack. Then right after he attacked, do a jump attack and jump backwards right after it. It's important to time your jumps well. If you jump too early you will jump right into his attack. If you jump too late, he will attack before you had the chance to jump backwards.
When a piece of his armor is off, just do the same, but then you don't have to make him attack first.
