The Walt Disney Company's subsidiary FPC (Film Production Company) in the UK responsible for housing THE LITTLE MERMAID 2023 live action remake starring Halle Bailey recently filed a new return, showing that through August 2022, Disney had already spent a total of just under $300 Million USD to produce the now-failed film. This would not yet include the entirety of post production , editing, VFX , CGI , etc... which would have continued, leading up the films release in May of 2023, roughly 8-9 months later.
The Walt Disney Company has lost over $1 Billion at the box office since last spring/summer.

Breaking: DEADLINE MAGAZINE admits in new article that Disney's The Little Mermaid 2023 live action remake is in deep trouble and tried to make the case that even though they fully expect it to flop in theaters that Little Mermaid will use some Disney Magic to find a profit with some clever accounting tricks. The problem of course is that Disney now consumes all of its own content on its proprietary DTC streaming service Disney+, so there's no real revenues there anymore once their major studio films leave the box office. Disney+ has accumulated roughly $13 Billion in losses since inception, so any monies Disney pays itself license their own content is little more than rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

At that level, per finance sources, off a reported $250M production cost and $140M global marketing spend, The Little Mermaid could very well break-even. However, anything in the low $400M global threshold and this fish is apt to be sinking to a loss of around $20M.
