Specifically in the case of SCP 274, the SCP is contained with a kyrlon spray paint can and once applied as graffiti to a structure, it is able to permeate through the building and completely replaced the quasi organic materials with its own body. One reaching a suitable point, it can then spawn other humanoid versions composed of itself, which will then go out and hunt or infect other buildings.
