The phenomenon of Dark Reign 1 was its story driven aspect, that told the story from two sides of the spectrum... ending each mission from each fraction, unlocked the next mission for both sides , all intertwined to tell a story about ... a time traveler mercenary that wanted to not help those two fractions... but to save Togra ...
A game that was first called a C&C knock off became its evolution... with Power management , technology stealing units , Path finding for units , Building production waypoint system and programmable Ai
and then Part 2 came ... oh dear , lack luster story , awful unit control , boring unit management ... now in 3D
In other words , a game that evolved the RTS added nothing to it ... but a 3D engine with boring ... then Ground Control 1 (also from 2000 evolved) the RTS genre , removing Building and Gathering money for Unit control ... for Action with movie like Story about the Gate to HELL (the 180 twist in this game that happened in the middle was amazing)
