The Moment We Knew Elias Pettersson Was A FRANCHISE TALENT (Vancouver Canucks Top Prospect → Star)
When was the moment you knew Elias Pettersson was special? Was it the moment he was drafted 5th overall by the Vancouver Canucks at the 2017 NHL Entry Draft? Was it when he started dominating the SHL as a 19-year-old, cementing himself as one of the top NHL prospects in the world? Was it when he scored his first NHL goal on his first shot against the Calgary Flames? Or maybe it was when he won the Calder Trophy against Jordan Binnington, Rasmus Dahlin, Miro Heiskanen, Jesperi Kotkaniemi, and others? One thing's for sure though, I remember when I knew. It was back when he was said to be as good as Peter Forsberg.
And yes, I'm saying he has franchise potential; a class which includes guys like the Toronto Maple Leafs' Auston Matthews, the Winnipeg Jets' Patrik Laine, the Buffalo Sabres' Jack Eichel and Rasmus Dahlin, the New Jersey Devils' Jack Hughes, and upcoming 2020 NHL Entry Draft top prospects Alexis Lafrenière of the Rimouski Océanic and Quinton Byfield of the Sudbury Wolves.
