"The Monkees This Just Doesn't Seem To Be My Day" "The Monkees Greatest Hits"
"Always liked this song very much. It actually comes across as a humorous song and a somber/sad song at the same time. David Jones was able to nail just the right tone for this one, giving it as much of strong performance as even the most serious of songs. The musical arrangement also is actually very impressive, being made up of various "sections."
The opening is a haunting, minor-key herald of bad things to come, with its ominous-sounding sitar. Next, the song gives way to a jaunty, upbeat and paradoxically happy arrangement played against Davy's never-ending series of lousy events during the day. These upbeat sections give way to a suddenly somber, slower, melancholy section in which Davy laments his girlfriend's sudden departure. Most impressive, you really can dance to all of this!"
