A Review of the original Need for Speed game, Special Edition published by Electronic Arts in 1996. This is an enhanced CD-ROM version of the first game in the long running Need For Speed series. This game saw the player race in a number of supercars across the open roads of America. It felt a bit like a modern day Test Drive, but without the fuzz breathing down your neck and threatening to write you a ticket for speeding.

At the time the graphics and general level of detail in the cars was above anything else on the home computer. The game looked and sounded great. This version had support for network/modem multiplayer too which would have been great fun and definitely more exciting than racing against the computer cars that enjoy smashing into your car at any given opportunity.

There were some issues with the recording of this and other DOS games when I recorded the review in 2023. I think I've sorted it for the future so apologies for all the sound issues and stutters.
