This adventure is written in old-style characters.

The command system is rather poor, with a vocabulary of around 40 words. Compared to most text adventures, there isn't a command to describe the inventory, which is represented with upper right part of the screen objects, and an "examine" command to ask for details on something; even the characters are described only briefly in the paper manual, while the game often limits itself to saying their names.
Some abbreviations and the AND command to perform multiple actions are supported.

Time in the game runs even when the player is idle, unless the pause command is given. If you don't send anything for a while, a wait command is automatically issued periodically. If too much time is wasted it is also possible that Atreyu dies, overcome by weakness or attacked by Mork, ending the game.

The adventure is divided into three distinct parts, loaded one at a time, for a total of over 100 kB of program and data. It's possible to save the game, but not in all editions.

As usual, many many many many thanks to minotaurus85, the Commodore 64 expert (at least the most expert of his entire town :D), he recorded this longplay after i subtly asked him how beautiful would be having some text adventure longplay :D

This video is part of the videogame endings database, whose goal is to catalogue and create the world's largest archive of videogame endings! (what an humble and not ambitious project :D)
