You know that recurring dream you have where you show up to a really important job interview in your underwear?
That dream is a reality for NFL players, and that job interview is called the NFL Scouting Combine. The only difference is they actually look good in their underwear.
By now we all know and — well maybe not love — but at least like the NFL Combine if for no other reason than it gives us this tiny oasis of pseudo-football in between the Super Bowl and the draft.
We’re used to the process now: the 40-yard dashes, the broad jumps, the three cone drills.
But the combine wasn’t always like this. In fact, there wasn’t always a combine, and i’m going to tell you about that, right after this.
