The Ninth Generation Retrospective - Ghostwire Tokyo
Ghostwire Tokyo, an FPS game released exclusively to PS5 and PC that presents an open world variant of real-life Tokyo Japan with characters that're reminiscent of a supernatural horror flick gives the player much freedom to explore its various districts, underground subways, apartments, and more. While the game tries its best to keep the player engaged, ultimately it suffers from the "Open World" syndrome with numerous cliché and uninteresting fetch quest side missions, dozens of collectables that make you feel like you're going through the motions, a watered-down combat system that doesn't evolve much from the start of the game to the end, and a pointless progression system that's too grindy for what it's worth.
Top it off with an enthusiastically boring plot about the importance of family and loyalty with a severe lack of interesting ways to explore its vast environment, and severe performance issues on PC and you have a game that's underwhelming at best by the beginning and even worse, forgettable by the end.
