Steve Drake was an FBI Agent in counter- terrorism during the Cold War. As Steve progressed throughout his career, he learned that the law he swore to uphold was holding him back in certain cases. Sometimes there is a difference between right and wrong and legal and illegal.

To ensure that justice was served to the common man and protect the United States of America, Steve Drake would become the avenger known as the Black Cobra.

The Black Cobra had no superpowers, but his costume was made from a special bulletproof plastic Drake had invented. Drake also used such tools as suction cups in his boots which allowed him to run down buildings.

The Black Cobra was published by Ajax Farrell Comics. Ajax Farrell operated from 1951 to 1958, publishing 62 titles and over 300 comics until going out of business.

The Black Cobra would be published as three issues. Issue 1, Issue 6 (a misprint on the cover, originally meant for Billy Bunny #6) and Issue 3.
