What is The Outer Worlds?
- Single player only, first person only space game
o Not controlling your own ships though
- Story and character driven RPG, you arrive on ship and build your character from the start
o No microtransactions
- Release in 1 month
o Game pass, but steam in 2020
Is it just Fallout: New Vegas in space?
- Even Obsidian describes this as being something NV fans would like, but
o Two big distinctions, well really 3
1. Not Fallout
2. Not open world
a. Linear planet, open world planet, and some other spots like asteroids
3. Not AAA
o Also no mod support at launch at least
 “We’re going to look into that after we ship, in terms of what kind of support we can have for it.”
- But still has some other aspects going for it – in many ways NV systems+
o Still open world esque – do what you want when you want for who you want
 Kill everyone playthrough possible
o Dialogue focus and heavy – true consequence and choice
 Numerous endings based on who you side with
 Numerous ways to resolve quests
 Replyability is a selling point
 Ending slideshow akin to NV
o Dark humor
 Dumb dialogue
o Skill and perk system is very fleshed out featuring many options
 Character creator with aptitude and appearance
 Flaw system
 Aptitude system from start
 Gives you many options to handle a variety of problems
o Less bugs and more polish QoL – Obsidian doesn’t want to be the buggy company anymore
o Weapons had mods, but also unique variations in form of corporations – 10 brands
 Repair
 In combat have injure system
 TTD
o Armor
Corporations as the backbone of this story
- Two planets as core of this game
o Terra 1 – monarch, failed colnization
o Terra 2 – Halcyon – colonized but old now
- You awake, the stranger, 70 years late
- Start off awoken by Phineas, but then go to planet and early on can choose to continue with Phineas or side with board
o Later can double cross and even kind of become antagonist in game

- Own ship you focus around
- Companions play large role
o Ability
o Stat bonuses
o Quests
o Interject in dialogue
- Supernova difficulty
o Eating, sleeping
o Harder to heal
o Companions can die permanently
o Must take flaws
