While everyone was still drooling over the new Last of Us remastered or Calisto protocol, I only had eyes for The Plucky Squire during Thursday’s Devolver Direct. Is it me or is this shtick getting old? When a story book villain called Humgrump realizes he will never the defeat the book’s hero, he decides to kick Jot out of it’s pages. I mean, I was okay with just the 2D game on it’s own, but then they show the 3D world. Considering the game was by James Turner, former Art Director at Pokémon, you would think that it’d look great, but this is a different level entirely.
Essentially the gameplay loop will let jump between 2D and 3D worlds, solving puzzles, fighting with all kinds of enemies and off course, flying around in a child’s bedroom with a jetpack. The gameplay loop reminds me of Zelda or even Super Mario odyssey, and that thrown into a setting we only know from games like Supraland, Toy Story on the N64 or Chibi-Robo on Gamecube. It’s coming out in 2023 on basically all platforms
