The question of if my games should be long or small and episodic + update

Basically trying to figure out if i should make my games long 20+ hour rpg games/longer games with lots of content (like castle crashers or a long mario game) or just short games that continue the flow of each story just a little bit (maybe couple hours of gameplay each.)

The major concern here is that with longer games they will come out maybe once every couple of years and i would need a lot of assets just to make one. These games would probably be priced at $20 each depending on the length.

The shorter but episodic games would basically not have the player worry too much about stats or levels since it would be a shorter experience. This would allow for the players to get a feel for how strong each character should be in a given situation while still making an interactive story.

I will probably figure this out on my own time but at the same time some input would be lovely.
