The Real Problem with RTX 3080 Crashes is NVIDIA's Paranoia of Leaks
In a different style of video, Steve talks about RTX 3080 crashes to desktop, capacitors, and NVIDIA's paranoia while biking down a mountain. We didn't want to leave you all hanging while we took a break, so here are our loosely compiled thoughts. This is obviously unscripted and not heavily edited, nor shot with our normal equipment, so please take it for what it is: Just talking while getting in some mountain biking. The video would have been very late otherwise, as I've (SB) just given the team a few days of vacation time, so I wanted to get something out to answer what we could. Although this video is rooted in the topic of RTX 3080 crashes and capacitors (SP-Caps, MLCCs, "POSCAPS," etc.), the ultimate topic is one of how this even happens. We talk about the behind-the-scenes operations of NVIDIA and board partners, video card & GPU manufacturing pipelines, and how NVIDIA is hurting its launch reputation for the future. The company, we think, needs to refocus on making a good product -- and that includes enabling partners to meet their goals -- and back off of the paranoia about leaks.
