Why did the PS Classic fail?

Lots of good- and valid- theories out there, for sure.

But here's one I've not heard a lot of folks talking about: PS Classic failed because the 1st generation of 3D games simply were not that great.

NOTE: YES of course there were some classic and some gems; I'm talking about overall, folks. Don't blow a gasket :).
