The Real Story Behind the Rosetta Stone




The *Rosetta Stone* was the key to understanding ancient Egyptian writing.
Discovered in 1799 by a French soldier in Egypt, the stone had the *same message* written in **three languages**: Greek, Demotic, and Egyptian hieroglyphs.
Since scholars already understood Greek, they used it to decode the hieroglyphs—thanks to the hard work of *Jean-François Champollion* in 1822.
