The Realization I Came to While Playing 12 is Better than 6
Lately I've been getting more requests from developers and publishers wanting the site to cover their Kickstarter projects. As somebody who has spent more time reviewing games than previewing them, I'll admit that I've been a little perplexed when it comes to covering titles that are currently being crowd-funded. So instead of simply ignoring these Kickstarter games, I want to take a few minutes and talk about some of my reasoning and get suggestions from you, the viewer.
It's probably worth admitting right off the top that I've never backed a Kickstarter project. I have rooted for many to succeed, but have avoided spending any money to help them meet their goals. I'm also the last guy who should be giving investment advice, especially when it comes to games that are a year or two out. There are so many titles currently coming out that I barely have time to keep track of what's happening on Kickstarter.
But whether I like it or not, crowd-funding is here to stay. Plenty of good games have come from Kickstarter and other websites, and right now there are no signs of it slowing down. I'm at a point now where I can't ignore it, I have to make a decision about how to preview Kickstarter projects. So I've done exactly that, and going forward I don't plan on posting previews of games currently in the crowd-funding process.
