The red card that cost Arsenal a Champions League final
It was the closest that Arsenal had ever got to glory in the UEFA Champions League. They had gone 9 months and 10 matches without conceding with Jens Lehmann between the sticks, toppling the likes of Real Madrid, Juventus and Villarreal in the knockout phase without conceding a goal. But just 18 minutes into the 2006 UEFA Champions League final in Paris between Arsenal and Barcelona, Jens Lehmann was sent off for a last man tackle on Samuel Eto'o. Sol Campbell would score for Arsenal - and remains the only Arsenal player to score in a UEFA Champions League final. In their only visit to a UEFA Champions League final, Arsenal lost with 2 goals from Barcelona in the final 14 minutes, first from Samuel Eto'o and then from Juliano Belletti. They haven't played in the UEFA Champions League for 4 years, whilst Barcelona have won 3 UEFA Champions League titles since 2006.
