Dear Diary: this was just supposed to be a demo reel as I checked the audio mix balance in today's recording setup before starting to shoot actual production footage. But the balance was good, so it's getting posted as episode #311. There is a slight time delay where the audio is lagging the webcam video. 500ms to be exact. I know because I hounded down the root cause for this discrepancy and personally do not remember ever configuring the voice-over track for that delay. Whatever the reason, it should be fixed after this particular episode, and will hopefully never happen again.
There are not too many games that can recall the deep feeling of nostalgia that playing Descent 3 does. It was the year I first started building my own PCs. It was a renaissance return to PC gaming for me, having not regularly played PC games since undergrad. It was California in the summer. Open windows, hardly ever any rain, and no pressure. As much as I love PC gaming, I really love my peripherals, and Descent 3 means having an opportunity to break out a joystick; this time I selected the Thrustmaster HOTAS.X from the armory, the one I've modded with non-skid strip gun grips and it provides a great tactile experience. The start to a great afternoon of gaming.
