the return of ishtar is an intimidating game. 128 (well, 127 i think) interconnected rooms, with fake doors and keys, traps and monsters, a list of magical spells that increases as you level up (and you're never told what they do) and two characters to control independently (it's a two-player only game, really, although the ps1 port lets you play as both with one controller). only the best will make it to the bottom.

the writer of gaming hell once tried to beat the game completely by themselves- no guide, making all the maps, etc. they didn't get very far.

anyway, this is the music that plays in rooms where the roper enemy is present. the best way to describe the roper is that it looks like a spotted dick (you can interpret this as either the popular British dessert or whatever, it's all the same), is a recurring enemy in the series from the first game onwards, and gets used for a cheap tentacle joke in the tower of druaga anime.

yes there was a tower of druaga anime.

this music sounds really familiar, but i can't put my finger on where i've heard it before. oh well.
