The Scheme (ザ・スキーム, Za Sukīmu) is a side-scrolling action RPG developed and published by Bothtec for the PC-88 computer system. It originally released in Japan on August 9, 1988.

This title is considered to be one of the earlier attempts at a metroidvania, as it featured exploration though a non-linear map, where progression is only possible if you can defeat the boss and collect its item to progress to the next area. Unlike most games just defeating the boss and acquiring the item doesn't let you progress, but you also have to find the hidden gate that will lead deeper into the world.

The soundtrack is also considered to be one of the earliest works of Yuzo Koshiro.
