Happiness starts with our brain, specifically the
hippocampus, the area the human brain responsible for happiness and positive memories.
Serotonin is a neurotransmitter synthesized from the amino acid Tryptophan which is commonly found in Turkey.
Serotonin helps regulate learning, mood, sleep, sexuality and appetite.
20 minutes a day outside in a good weather boosts positive mood, broadens thinking and improves working memory.
Married people are happier than unmarried people.
Clergymen, actors, architects, and firefighters are among the happiest occupations.
However around the world, consumerism is the biggest suppressant of happiness.
Happiness is maximized at thirteen point nine degrees Celsius or 57 degrees Fahrenheit.
Healthy people are 20% happier than average.
On the contrary having a child reduces happiness by 0.24% on average.
Exercise releases proteins and endorphins that make thebrain feel happier. Look at the picture of when you are sitting and when you are walking for 20 minutes. Walking involves more parts of your brain.
Dopamine is another neurotransmitter which helps regulate the brain's reward and pleasure centers, movement and emotional responses.
Dopamine is synthesized from Tyrosine found in poultry, fish, milk and bananas.
You should get some sleep for you to be happy. Sleep deprived people have a harder time remembering positive ideas and an
easier time remembering negative ideas.
In a study of sleep-deprived college students 81% of them recalled negative words and 31% recalled positive words.
The happiest kids in the world are found in Mexico, Spain, Brazil, Germany and America. Having close friends and family is the most important source of a kid's happiness.
The two biggest factors that contribute to happiness around the world is a senseof community and frequent community
celebrations.
43% to attend the church service weekly,
31% who attended a service monthly and
26% who never attended church say they are very happy.
According to Maslow's hierarchy of needs. The ingredients for happiness are the following:
level one basic biological needs,
level two the need for security,
level three relationships,
level four respect and
level five life purpose.
People in the highest income bracket are only about 3.5% happier than the average.
Since it's Christmas time, 34 percent of men and 44 percent of women get the holiday blues.
