You can find a variety of reference points either by visuals, feeling, or even audibly, but having a few of these for every corner helps you be proactive as a driver. If you have to be reactive to drive quickly, I guarantee you'll be slow. Reference points act as a guide, and you adjust your driving around the reference points depending on the conditions (ie. side by side with another kart, rain, worn tires, etc).
