Confession- I never owned a Master System. My friend did, and I coveted it greatly, for three games in particular- Wonder Boy in Monster World, Shinobi, and Phantasy Star.
While I've played those all many times over, in addition to a good chunk of this book, Sega in the 80s was the pinnacle of arcade games in my opinion. Altered Beast and Shinobi were two games in particular I probably spent enough quarters on that I could have just bought a home version.
This book, as the title suggests, is a visual celebration of Sega's little system that could. There's a lot of gems hidden in here.
This is just one of a series of books Bitmap Books have put out celebrating the halcyon days of console video games.
If you enjoy retro gaming, vintage video game art, or a look behind the curtain as to how some of this came about, there's some good stuff to be had!
Hell, I'd forgotten about Dragon Crystal- I beat that sucker and it was a pretty obnoxious roguelike!
