The Sharpest of Knees - Elden Ring pt.94 (2022-03-12)
The very beginning of Castle Sol is an interesting dance with a couple of the lion creatures. They dodge spells so reliably that I need to pick something with a delayed effect. I wish I had found out sooner that invisibility spells don't prompt enemy dodges, as these encounters would have been much simpler.
Further into the castle, there's a lot of the teleporting spirit warrior enemies, and they can quickly close the distance as I try to cast spells. I can at least rely on the Glintblade Phalanx skill and Adula's Moonblade to stagger enemies and catch them as they move, but I can still barely take a hit.
I eventually made it to Commander Niall - the stronger, better-guarded, icier version of O'Neil - and yet another example of Elden Ring's recurring naming themes). I spent quite a lot of time on this boss with how little damage I was able to do and how quickly the mimic would die off. Niall also has some very delayed attacks (reminiscent of Margit), and that's also making him quite difficult to dodge. Magic glintblade ended up saving the day as a way to deal damage on the move. It might very well be the most valuable spell of my playthrough.
With Niall dead, I can head to the top of Castle Sol and claim the second Haligtree Secret Medallion. With it, I can head back to the Grand Lift of Rold and see what lies beyond. Speaking of the Haligtree, you can see it from the vantage point where you find the medallion, though I didn't think to look at the time.
