Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree - Elden Ring pt.99 (2022-03-12)
0Haligtree Town's last line of defense turns out to be another encounter with Loretta. It seems she traveled here some time after her stay in Caria Manor. The game's lore states that she had traveled to try to find a place where the Albinaurics could live in peace, and it also suggests that she may have been an Albinauric herself. That seems to be a general trend with the Haligtree - it's a place where those shunned by the Golden Order & Grace itself could find some manner of comfort.
Not long after, I find myself in Elphael - effectively the closest equivalent of Leyndell for those who follow the Haligtree. It's a large structure that wraps around the tree and has quite a few of the strongest knights in the game.
Elphael also happens to have a couple of inconveniently placed Erdtree Avatars that are especially dangerous to fight, and much of the difficulty of the area is figuring out how to safely dispatch them.
The most terrifying foe in the area is actually down below - there's not one, but a series of Revenants waiting - and each can kill you more or less before you can react. That put me in a perilous situation - I don't want to waste 339,000 runes, but getting them back is quite a task. At least each enemy is worth quite a lot, and I could simply farm for runes if I really needed.
In fact, I earned 87,000 runes just in my trip to recover the original pile.
