I'm pretty sure that everyone at this point knows or at least has heard about the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster, when a nuclear power plant near a Soviet Ukrainian town of Pripyat exploded and created one of the biggest natural catastrophes in the world. The Chernobyl Exclusion zone is fascinating, and there is a ton of movies and TV shows about Chernobyl. However, not a lot of people know that almost 30 years earlier in Soviet Russia there was another one: the 1957 Kyshtym disaster, also known as the Mayak nuclear accident. This disaster happened in the Chelyabinsk region of Russia, and is actually one of the biggest nuclear accidents in human history.
