The Stanley Parable playthrough #4: Straw Man Argument
The definition of a straw man argument is to make up a false representation of what you're arguing against, then claiming you're right by arguing this thing you just made up, which doesn't actually exist.
Straw man 1: Stanley is a straw man. Stanley does what he's told and never asks questions. Based on what I've seen in my life, people aren't like that. Many people do what they're told, but it's because they think it's a good idea, or because they have a wife and kids who depend on their salary. Not because they don't think for themselves. They think, then they choose to follow.
Straw man 2: The "plot" described here is a straw man. It's illogical, it's full of holes, it expects the player to be stupid. It's a bad story, but that doesn't mean that all stories are bad, and it doesn't mean that gamers can't tell the difference between a good story and a bad one. See all the hate for the Mass Effect 3 ending for proof that gamers can tell the difference, and that they demand good stories.
If you're interested in philosophy, go to your local library, find the philosophy section, pick up a book, and read. From what I can see, the guy who made The Stanley Parable hasn't done that, and it shows.
