The story of Apollo 14 , with previously unseen images || Part 3. VIDEO
Apollo 14 was the third manned mission in the Apollo program and was launched on January 31, 1971. The crew consisted of Commander Alan Shepard, Command Module Pilot Stuart Roosa, and Lunar Module Pilot Edgar Mitchell. Shepard became the first American to walk on the moon during this mission. The mission also marked the first time a golf club was taken to the moon and the famous shot was taken by Shepard. The mission lasted nine days, with the crew spending 33 hours on the lunar surface and gathering 92 pounds of lunar rock and soil. The mission was a success and helped to further validate the capabilities of the Apollo program and solidify the United States' dominance in the Space Race.
