This is a reproduction of a sword belonging to Uesugi Kenshin, the daimyo of Echigo province during the Sengoku period in 16th century Japan. The original was a Tachi, and this version has been made shorter and all black.
It handles well and makes short work of soaked tatami mats, with minimal effort. The bo-hi (fuller) in the blade produces an audible swoosh ("sword wind") when swung with correct edge alignment, which is good for practice.
It's very well made and stood up to serious abuse in my practical tests. Easy to recommend!
