"The Terminator" Tanker Truck Explosion Filming Location 39th Anniversary - Then & Now
Well, 39 years ago today, audiences were utterly terrified when they got to see a gigantic Austrian bodybuilder play a killer cyborg chasing a poor young woman, when "The Terminator" released on 10/26/84. FIVE SEQUELS LATER, Happy 39th Anniversary to The Terminator! This is the spot in downtown Los Angeles on Keller Street where the Tanker truck explodes from the pipe bomb. 39 years later, here's a little scene breakdown for you. It's amazing how little the building has changed on the facade, with the exception of the loading area. The actual explosion took place on a very large miniature set, as the city of Los Angeles would not allow James Cameron to explode a full-scale truck, even though that is what he wanted to do. The miniature worked out great in the end.
