Photo modes are an almost ubiquitous presence in videogames these days, and racing games are no different. Because of the huge number and high quality of photo modes in the genre we decided to rank our ten favourites. The list is entirely subjective of course, so your opinions may differ and we’d be keen to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

Thanks to the likes of F1 22, Gran Turismo 7, and Forza Horizon 5 among others, we’ve been treated to some incredible in-game images using photo modes, with most taking inspiration from real digital camera settings.

However, even without practical knowledge it’s still possible to take vividly realistic photos. Developers have cottoned on to this in recent times, as photo modes offer free game promotion via players’ social media feeds. And what better way to show off a race win, epic drift or spectacular crash than with a dynamic photo?

You don’t have to balance shutter speed, aperture and exposure to capture a solid in-game shot but photo modes can allow photographers to brush up on their technique without the hassle of venturing out to a muddy racetrack. And that says a lot about the standard of racing game photo modes today.
