The Trial of Patience | Mynth Wanderers Session 108
DM Notes: The trials were based on a few different things. First, the (relatively sparse) notes in Mordenkeinen's Tome of Foes that describe how the githzerai capital has six layers of embedded defenses. Second, the Unbroken Circle of Zerthimon from Planescape: Torment that describes the Gith rebellion in detail. Third, my annoyance with the way githzerai portrayals have shifted from independence-minded chaotic neutrals to rigid lawful neutrals over the years. Back in 1st edition the githzerai were chaotic neutral but had the same sort of monastic society, and I wanted to bring that back. As for the Spirit of Magic, everything it said about Vecna is canon to the Die, Vecna, Die! module. One of the designers would later say the serpent that taught Vecna was just a delusion, but obviously I decided on a different explanation.
