They're called Walers - nuggetty, tough animals which are amongst the hundreds of thousands of wild horses roaming Australia's outback. The Walers were once the nation's pride and, in their day, their tireless performance on the battlefield earned them the reputation as the best cavalry horses in the world. There is, however, a chance to save the Walers as Jennifer Byrne found when she toured the outback for this touching story.
