Wario Land 1 was very unlike the later games in the series. It played more like a Mario game, where you were capable of dying, and there's coin blocks and power-ups. Wario Land 2 would drastically change the gameplay, which became the new standard for future Wario Land games. But there's actually one more Wario game that plays more like the original, and Nintendo has never re-released it, even to this day.
