The Witcher 4 is COMING! CD Projekt Red Hints #witcher4 #cdpr #witcher3
CD Project Red announced in its most recent semi-annual report on August 30, 2019, that it is adopting a "dual-franchise" model including THE WITCHER and Cyberpunk franchise. Cyberpunk 2077 is due out on April 16, 2020, but CDPR has not given up on The Witcher. Why not? The last game has sold 40 million copies, it is the game that made CDPR, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's sales are up in the first half of 2019 from the first half of 2018. The last game left Geralt of Rivia a property owner in the Duchy of Toussaint and featured over 36 major endings. How can they do a Witcher 4? The easiest answer is that they will follow the path of the Netflix series coming out in Q4 2019. CD Project Red could adapt the eight medieval fantasy books by Andrzej Sapkowski. Witcher 1, 2, and 3 actually take place after Sapkowski's bestselling novels, but the Netflix series starring Henry Caville will be featuring the book stories. That is the big easy button CDPR has not pushed.
While Cyberpunk 2077 due out on April 16, 2019, has many indications of a role playing game (RPG) hit, abandoning a franchise, The Witcher, that made the company and is rising in popularity seems a bad idea. That is why CD Projekt Red has told its investors it still plans to develop the Witcher franchise which last saw a major game release in 2015 and the expansion packs (DLCs) Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are three years old. While the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is premiering on the mobile gaming platform Nintendo Switch on October 15, 2019, the Franchise may turn to a new RPG game in 2020 after Cyberpunk debuts. This CDPR announcement means they are keeping their The Witcher developers. That means they will be developing a new game. Will it be a pre-quell starring Geralt or will it feature the stories of other Witchers such as Ciri, Vesimir, Lambert, or Eskil?
