The first attempt is how USUALLY you would fight him, notice how the suicide enemy makes it worse for me.

The second attempt is the right way, you have to take it easy, take out one of the big cannons, the attractor and then the suicide enemy launcher (be wary of the crazy side movement which happens after 2 parts are destroyed in second phase). After that just destroy the remaining big cannon, you have way bigger chances at final phase by doing it this way.
