372XDefiant is now out of the last play test and back into the waiting game for the game's full release. When that will be, we don't quite know, but it's *sometime* upcoming and if reports are to believed, it's eyeing another summer release window here, hopefully for real this time around. But déjà vu and the potential memes of "I'll see you in another year" for the launch, I think there's an important discussion to be had about the hurdles still facing the game. Yes, it's awesome that we're getting a free to play, arcade shooter, no cost to us that we can grind out. Yes, it's awesome that in an industry that prioritizes SBMM and player retention as much as it does lately, it's awesome to not have that be an integral part of the game. Yes, it's awesome to have any sort of competition in an industry that can push all parties involved to hopefully be better and create a better product for players but beyond that? Like actually beyond the surface, what keeps you around?
