The player named Arnold, a Fazbear Entertainment employee, explores the abandoned Murray Costume Manor after its owner, Edwin Murray, goes missing, while fending off The Mimic, an animatronic endoskeleton that can adapt to the many mascot costumes in the workshop. It is a first-person stealth horror game with an emphasis on exploration, puzzle-solving, and survival. Like FNaF: Security Breach, the game departs from the traditional camera-based gameplay of earlier FNaF titles and instead focuses on direct player movement through a fully explorable 3D environment.
