Some of you will remember the moment story post I had made recently. This project is a self-tape of the scene that created that moment for me. A moment that forced me to stop and think to myself, “this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. This scene gripped me from the very first time I watched it on TV. It was at a time of sadness, pain, and struggles with addiction that this work of art reached out and said to me: “it’s okay to ask for help”. This scene enabled me to look within myself and transform my heart, as all great art does.
So, when I had to figure out a piece for the final in my Art of the Audition: Stage to Screen class with the incredible Mark Tymchychyshyn, I knew this was one I wanted to consider. It was a challenge for me to connect to the piece honestly and with a sense of melding my life and experiences with that of Kevin Pearson. With solid script analysis and many rehearsals and critiques, I performed this piece on stage for the last class. It was a feeling I couldn’t put into words except for what I told my dear friend Yanal Abuzaid. It felt like being on a race track, doing exactly what gives me the most joy and passion while being confident in my ability and proud of the work I was putting forward.
I also want to tell you that asking for help doesn’t make you weak, it makes you human. Over the last year, I have found so much help and support that has transformed my life simply by admitting that I need it and looking for it. If you need it, never be afraid to ask for it. It will take time, but I promise you, it will be worth it. Thank you all for your love and support.
